Change Your Brain, Change Your Life With Dr Daniel Amen

Dr. Daniel Amen, a renowned neuropsychiatrist, has authored the highly-acclaimed book Change Your Brain, Change Your Life. In this second edition, Amen provides even more useful brain prescriptions and information about the latest brain-imaging technology. His advice is simple but effective. Change your thoughts, change your diet, and practice new ways of thinking. All of these tips and techniques will have a profound impact on your life and health.

SPECT scans

A series of SPECT scans have been developed to detect various forms of brain disorders. For example, it is used to diagnose schizophrenia and depression. It can also be used to diagnose seven different types of ADHD. During a talk, Dr. Amen will project SPECT images onto a screen, showing the differences between healthy and diseased brains. Specifically, a healthy brain is an oval whereas a diseased or traumatized brain is wrinkled and rumpled. Alzheimer’s brains, on the other hand, are riddled with holes and shriveled.

Dr. Amen’s claims about the effectiveness of SPECT scans have been widely ridiculed by mainstream medical experts. But he is not alone in his beliefs. More than 3,000 patients have sought treatment with him at his clinic in California. In addition to referring patients, Amen completed two hundred hours of training and received a radioactive materials license from the Institute of Nuclear Medicine Education. His mission was born when his nephew nearly died of a brain cyst.

Changing thoughts

A new study suggests that ‘imperfect’ is a misnomer – every situation contains an element of perfection. However, changing your thoughts can change your life. Purity of thoughts is essential for a healthy lifestyle. If you have insecurities about yourself, chances are, you’ll want to look at these and change your attitude. To become more positive, change your thoughts to include more pleasant thoughts.

Successful people often visualize the lives they want to lead. They do not let negative thoughts sabotage their dreams. Their positive thoughts make these dreams a reality. Changing your thoughts to reflect a positive outlook is the best way to change your life. If you think of a good thing and see yourself as a good person, you’re more likely to act accordingly. Positive thoughts lead to positive feelings and actions, which in turn create positive experiences in your life.

Optimal brain health

If you’ve ever read a book about ageing and memory lapses, you probably know that the brain stops developing in your early twenties and slows down considerably with age. Cognitive decline can lead to serious health problems such as Alzheimer’s disease. But cognitive decline is not inevitable. We can do our part to protect our brain and live a long and healthy life. Brainy activities help develop new connections between nerve cells. They may also build functional reserve and neurological “plasticity.”

Social engagement is a good way to boost brain health. Volunteering at a local animal shelter or after-school program could help your brain function. If you enjoy singing, you could join a local choir or start a new singing group. Social engagement can also help your brain stay sharp and focused. If you are into building furniture or jigsaw puzzles, you may also enjoy playing bridge. Whatever you do to keep your mind challenged may have both short-term and long-term benefits.
